...From the end of the 15th century to the beginning of the 16th century, many writers who wrote comedies and farces appeared, mainly in Florence. Bernardo Dovizi (1470-1520), known as Bibbiena, wrote La Calandria (c. 1513), a play about twins and confusion caused by disguise, which was born out of the climate of reevaluation of classical Renaissance comedy. L. Ariosto, who wrote the long heroic poem Orlando mad, was the first playwright to write a play with a formal format.
