The summit is pyramidal, surrounded by three ridges, the southeast, west, and northeast, and the south (west), north, and east walls drop into the Khumbu Glacier, Rongbuk Glacier, and Kangshung Glacier, respectively. Changtse (7,553m) on the north ridge that branches off from the northeast ridge of the main peak, Pumo Ri (7,145m) on the west ridge at the entrance to the Khumbu Glacier, Lhotse (8,511m) on the southeast ridge about 3km from the main peak, and Nuptse (7,879m) further west form the Everest Mountains. The summit of the main peak is made of metamorphosed Permian Carboniferous limestone, and shows sides of Permian to Jurassic deposits.
