A young female Kabuki actor in the Genroku period. Commonly known as Sasichi and Kagaya Tojuro. In Kyoto, he was called Samanojo. His haiku name was Sodeka. He was a disciple of the young female Kabuki actor Ogino Chodayū. In 1691 (Genroku 4), he played a samurai's wife in the play "Bride Mirror" at the Miyako Mandayū-za in Kyoto, playing a non-human character inherited from Araki Yojibei, which was a big hit, and from then on, he made bride mirror plays his specialty. The following year, he went to Edo and was active. In the 11th year of the same year, he retired for a while and ran a hair oil shop, but soon returned. He was handsome, charming, and had a refreshing way of speaking, and was loved by the people of the three capitals as "the best female actor." 元禄期の若女形の歌舞伎役者。通称佐七,香具屋藤十郎。京では左馬之丞と称した。俳名袖香。若女形の荻野長太夫の門弟。元禄4(1691)年,京都の都万太夫座の「嫁鏡」で武士の女房に扮した荒木与次兵衛譲りの非人のやつしが大当たりで,以後嫁鏡物をお家芸とする。翌年江戸へ下って活躍した。同11年には一時引退して鬢付油店を営んだが,まもなく復帰。美貌で愛嬌があり口跡もさわやかで,三都の人々から「女形の随一」として親しまれた。元禄の初めに彼がかぶった,左右に鉛のおもりを付けた沢之丞帽子が,女性の間で流行したという。<参考文献>『歌舞伎評判記集成』1期,『日本庶民文化史料集成』6巻
