Caytonia

Japanese: Caytonia
Caytonia

...The structure for sexual reproduction of this plant consists of a cluster of female flowers in the center, surrounded by clusters of male flowers, which are in turn surrounded by leaf-like organs that do not produce ovules or pollen sacs, and look like the pistils, stamens, and perianth of angiosperms. Caytonia , which flourished around the same time, is sexually distinct, but the female organs produce seeds in sac-like embryos, which are considered to be a precursor to the angiosperm state. There has been much debate as to whether angiosperms all originated from the same ancestor or have several different ancestors, i.e., whether they are monophyletic or polyphyletic.
