Citronellol - Shitoronero-ru (English spelling) citronellol

A chain monoterpene alcohol. It exists as a mixture of α- and β- in many plant essential oils. Citronellol has one asymmetric carbon atom, and therefore exists as dextrorotatory (d-isomer), levorotatory (l-isomer), and inactive (dl-isomer, racemic) optical isomers. Citronellol is contained in citronella oil and geranium oil, and is a colorless liquid with a sweet rose-like scent. Its flash point is 102°C. Citronellol fraction is obtained by rectification of citronella oil, and is refined to produce the product. It can also be obtained by catalytic hydrogenation of citronellal. It is used in floral blends such as rose, lily of the valley, and lily of the valley.

鎖状モノテルペンアルコールの一つ。多くの植物精油中にα-とβ-の混合物として存在する。シトロネロールには1個の不斉炭素原子があるので、右旋性（d体）、左旋性（l体）および不活性（dl体、ラセミ体）の光学異性体がある。シトロネロールはシトロネラ油、ゼラニウム油に含有され、甘いバラ様の香気を有する無色の液体である。引火点102℃。シトロネラ油を精留してシトロネロール留分をとり、精製して製品とする。シトロネラールを接触水添しても得られる。バラ、ミューゲ、スズランなどのフローラル系調合香料に用いられる。
