Japanese: オオハシ(大嘴) - オオハシ（英語表記）toucan

A general term for birds of the Ramphastidae family of woodpeckers. As its name suggests, it is famous, along with hornbills, for its extremely large beak. Some species have huge beaks that are as long as the body, but the inside is made of a mesh of bony fibers and is very light. It is a medium to large bird with a total length of 30 to 60 cm, with exposed skin around the eyes, a long tail, and powerful antidactyl legs. The plumage of both sexes is the same color, with flashy colors such as red, yellow, green, blue, white, and black, and the beak is also brightly colored.

キツツキ目オオハシ科Ramphastidaeの鳥の総称。その名のように，非常に大きなくちばしをもつことで，サイチョウ類とともに有名である。巨大なくちばしは，種によっては体長ほどあるが，内部は骨質の繊維が網目状に走っていてたいへんに軽い。全長30～60cmの中･大型の鳥で，眼の周囲の皮膚が裸出し，尾は長く，強力な脚は対趾足（たいしそく）である。羽色は雌雄同色で，赤色，黄色，緑色，青色，白色，黒色などのはでな色彩をしていて，くちばしも鮮やかな色である。
