Hundertschaft (English spelling)

A group of 100 soldiers found in early Germanic states. It was not a regional unit of the Old Germanic period, but was probably newly organized in the 7th and 8th centuries to meet the military needs of Germanic states, based on the system of the late Roman Empire.
