...The political process can be considered in four periods: (1) Ben Bella's regime (1962-65) Around the time of independence in July 1962, a fierce power struggle occurred within the FLN (National Liberation Front), but Ben Bella came to power with the support of Houari Būmedin (1927-78), who controlled the military. Ben Bella established a constitution in September 1963 to set the framework for the political system, and in the Algiers Charter adopted by the FLN Congress in April 1964, he confirmed the direction of socialist economic construction.
