...A settlement site from the early Neolithic period (Linear Pottery culture = Danubian I and II culture) in the west of Cologne, Germany, dating to 4000-3000 BC as determined by carbon-14 dating. The entire scale of a Neolithic village, which cultivated wheat and raised cattle, pigs, and other livestock, was revealed for the first time in Europe during excavations conducted by W. Buttler and others in 1929-34, and became famous. A total of 50 long houses (over 30m long, up to 7m wide) were found in the northern settlement (2,670m2) and southern settlement (8,270m2). *Some of the terminology that mentions "Buttler, W." is listed below.
