Hisamasa Asai - Asai Hisamasa

Year of birth: Unknown. Sengoku daimyo of northern Omi (Shiga Prefecture). Son of Suemasa. Commonly known as Shinkuro. Sahyoe no jo, Shimotsuke no kami. Suemasa's wife, Kuraya, had no sons at first, so Akimasa was married off to his eldest daughter, Taya, from his clan, the Taya clan, but later, Hisamasa, born to a concubine (the Amago clan), became head of the family upon his father's death in 1542. This led to the offensive of the Kyogoku clan, the shugo (military governor) whose power had been usurped by Suemasa, and in 1542 they were forced to make peace with Kyogoku Takahiro (Takanobu), and the Rokkaku clan of southern Omi forced their eldest son, Shinkuro (Nagamasa), to take one character from Rokkaku Yoshikata's given name and take the name Kenmasa, and to take the daughter of Yoshikata's vassal as a wife. Such weak diplomacy caused growing dissatisfaction among the senior vassals, and Hisamasa divorced Kenmasa's wife and broke off relations with the Rokkaku clan. However, the following year, when Kenmasa became the first member of the Azai clan to defeat the Rokkaku army at Norada (Hikone City), Hisamasa was forced into retirement by the senior vassals who supported Kenmasa. However, he continued to be active after that, such as issuing orders to his retainers to march to battle, and it is clear that he continued to support Nagamasa's rule of the domain from the sidelines. After Oda Nobunaga attacked Odani Castle (Kohoku Town), Hisamasa committed suicide one day before Nagamasa and was buried at Tokushoji Temple (Nagahama City).

北近江(滋賀県)の戦国大名。亮政の子。通称新九郎。左兵衛尉,下野守。亮政の正室蔵屋には初め男子がなく,長女鶴千代の婿に一族田屋氏から明政を迎えていたが,のち側室(尼子氏)に生まれた久政が,天文11(1542)年父の死により家督を継ぐことになった。これを機に,亮政に実権を奪われていた守護京極氏が攻勢に転じ,同18年京極高広(高延)との和睦を余儀なくされたうえ,南近江の六角氏からは,嫡子新九郎(長政)に六角義賢の諱の1字を受けて賢政と名乗らせ,義賢の家臣の娘を妻として迎えるよう強要された。こうした弱腰の外交に重臣らの不満は高まり,久政は賢政の妻を離縁して六角氏と断交するが,翌年,野良田(彦根市)で賢政が浅井氏として初めて六角軍を破ると,賢政を支持する重臣らによって隠居させられた。しかしその後も家臣に出陣命令を出すなどの活動がみえ,領国支配を側面から支え続けていたことがわかる。織田信長に小谷城(湖北町)を攻められ,長政より1日前に自殺,徳勝寺(長浜市)に葬られた。
