A fishing boat made of fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP). Starting with a prototype seaweed boat in 1962, FRP has come to replace wooden boats due to its light, strong, and rot-resistant characteristics, and the number of such boats has increased to the same number as wooden boats, with some even reaching 100 tons. FRP is made by impregnating glass fibers with unsaturated polyester resin and laminating them, so wooden and FRP female mold construction methods are mainly used for building fishing boats. Small fishing boats have a single-layer structure of 7 to 8 outer plates, while large fishing boats have a sandwich structure of about 30 plates with core material in the middle.

船質が強化プラスチック(FRP)の漁船。1962年のノリ船試作に始まり，FRPの軽くて強く腐らない特徴から木造船に代わるようになり，隻数は木造船と同隻数まで増加し，100トン型まで建造されている。FRPはガラス繊維に不飽和ポリエステル樹脂を含浸させ積層させるので，漁船の建造にはおもに木製雌型およびFRP雌型工法が採用されている。小型漁船の外板は7～8枚の単層構造で，大型では約30枚の中間に心材を入れたサンドイッチ構造がとられている。
