A cape located at the northern tip of the Shimokita Peninsula in northeastern Aomori Prefecture. The northernmost point of Honshu. It faces Hakodate in Hokkaido across the Tsugaru Strait. During the Edo period, to cross from Honshu to Hokkaido, one had to take a boat from Minmaya Port on the Tsugaru Peninsula or Oma Port in Omazaki. In 1964 (Showa 39), a ferryboat was put into service between Hakodate Port and Omazaki, shortening the distance to Hokkaido. Omazaki Lighthouse is located on Benten Island, 800 meters offshore from Omazaki.
