The Roshigumi was formed in Edo in 1862 to control the Sonno Joi faction during the end of the Tokugawa shogunate, and was reorganized in Kyoto the following year by Kondo Isami, Serizawa Kamo, and Hijikata Toshizo. Although the group achieved some impressive results in the Ikedaya Incident (1864), it was disbanded after its defeat in the Boshin War. 幕末の一八六二年、尊王攘夷派統制のため江戸で結成された浪士組を、翌年、近藤勇、芹沢鴨、土方歳三らが京都で再組織したもの。池田屋事件(一八六四)などで確かな成果を挙げるも、戊辰戦争に敗退後、解隊。
