A tourist city located in the eastern part of Luxembourg, near the German border. Population 4,555 (2002). Located on the Schuur River, a tributary of the Moselle River, it is a scenic spot and a base for excursions, known as the "Switzerland of Luxembourg". The "dancing procession" held on Whit Tuesday is famous. There is a city hall built in the 15th century and an old Benedictine monastery. The nylon and pottery industries are well developed. It is also known as the site of Operation Bulge (the bulge means a salient part of the front line) during the Battle of the Ardennes between the Allied forces and the German forces from 1944 to 1945 during World War II.
