Kailasanatha Temple - Kailasanathaji (English spelling)
A Hindu temple dedicated to Kailasanatha, the Shiva god who is said to live on Mount Kailasa in the Himalayas. Representative examples can be found in Ellora and Kanchipuram in India. Kailasanatha Temple, Cave 16 of the Ellora Caves, was built in the first half of the 8th century by Dantidurga of the Rashtrakuta dynasty. The entire temple was carved out of the natural rock at the foot of the mountain, with a multi-storey gate, Nandi cow shrine (→ Nandi), worship hall, and main hall in succession from the front, and a pyramidal roof. The overall size is 53m wide, 90m deep, and 33m high. (→ Dravidian architecture)

ヒマラヤ山脈のカイラーサ山に住むというシバ神カイラーサナータをまつるヒンドゥー教寺院。インドのエローラとカーンチプラムに代表的実例が見られる。エローラ石窟の第16窟にあたるカイラーサナータ寺は,ラーシュトラクータ朝のダンティドゥルガが 8世紀前半に造営したもので,山裾の天然の岩から全体を彫り上げており,正面から重層楼門,ナンディン牛祠堂(→ナンディー),拝殿,本殿と続き,屋根はピラミッド状を呈する。全体の規模は横幅 53m,奥行 90m,高さ 33mに及ぶ。(→ドラビダ型建築)
