automatism

Japanese: automatism
automatism

...The broadest concept corresponds to the International Classification of Simple and Complex Partial Seizures with Mental Symptoms. Automata are a condition in which automatic movements are added to a state of impaired or dazed consciousness, followed by complete amnesia. Examples of automatism include oral (eating) automatism, which involves chewing and munching, facial automatism, which involves various facial expressions, gestural automatism, which involves feeling around pockets and buttons, gait automatism, which involves walking around the room, and verbal automatism, which involves stereotyped speech such as "hello, hola" and "kita-kita." As a precursor to automatism, there is a seizure of impaired consciousness, which only shows a loss of consciousness. It is the second most common type of seizure after generalized tonic-clonic convulsive seizures (grand mal seizures), accounting for about 30% of epileptic seizures, and is intractable and prone to personality changes and intellectual disability.
