1751‐1810 (1st year of Horeki‐7th year of Bunka) Kabuki playwright. Haiku name Masaaki. He first became a disciple of the Joruri playwright Chikamatsu Hanji, and then switched to Kabuki. He started out under the name Tokuzo, and in 1784 (Tenmei 4) he changed his name to Tokusou, and in November 1786 he became a lead playwright at the Onishi Theater. In 1795 (Kansei 7) he changed his name to Tokusou, and the following year he gained fame with Ise Ondo Koi Netaba at the Kado Theater, and after Namiki Gohei Toga he was active in Kyoto and Osaka together with Tatsuoka Mansaku until his death.
