Grey thrush

A bird of the Turdus subfamily, family Muscicapidae, class Passeri, class Aves. Total length is about 21 cm. The male is so named because its entire body is black except for its white belly. The blackbird that lives in Europe is in the same genus, but is a different species, and its Japanese name is Kuroutadori. The North American blackbird refers to the red-winged blackbird of the family Sturnidae, order Passeri. The black thrush breeds in Japan from Kyushu to Hokkaido and southern China, and migrates to the Indochina Peninsula and other places to spend the winter. It lives in low mountain forests, builds nests in trees, and lays 3 to 4 eggs. It hunts for insects, earthworms, etc. while hopping around on the ground. The male's song is loud and cheerful, and continues to have a complex melody that incorporates the voices of other species.

鳥綱スズメ目ヒタキ科ツグミ亜科の鳥。全長約21センチメートル。雄は腹が白いほかは全身が黒いので、この名がある。ヨーロッパにすむblackbirdは同属であるが、これとは別種で、和名をクロウタドリという。また北アメリカのblackbirdはスズメ目ムクドリモドキ科のハゴロモガラス類のことをさす。クロツグミは九州から北海道までの日本と、中国南部に繁殖分布し、インドシナ半島などに渡って越冬する。低山の林にすみ、樹上に巣をかけ、3～4個の卵を産む。地上を跳ね歩きながら、昆虫、ミミズなどをあさる。雄のさえずりは大きな朗らかな声で、他種の声を取り入れて複雑な節回しを続ける。
