A former town in Tohaku District, central Tottori Prefecture. It consists of low-lying rice paddy areas and sand dunes on the west bank of the downstream Tenjin River, and is served by the San'in Main Line. It has textile and canning industries, and in addition to grapes grown using powered pump irrigation in the sand dune fields, it also cultivates tobacco and Chinese yams. There are remains of the jori system. In October 2005, it was merged with Taiei Town, Tohaku District, to become a town, Hokuei Town, Tohaku District. 20.92 km2 . Population 8,030 (2003). 鳥取県中部,東伯(とうはく)郡の旧町。天神川の下流西岸の低平な水田地域と砂丘帯からなり,山陰本線が通じる。繊維・かん詰工業があり,砂丘畑地の動力揚水灌漑(かんがい)によるブドウのほか,タバコ,ナガイモを栽培。条里制遺構がある。2005年10月,東伯郡大栄町と合併し町制,東伯郡北栄町となる。20.92km2。8030人(2003)。
