Addition - Kaho

Addition refers to adding two numbers together to find a third number. The resulting third number is called the sum of the two numbers. Of the first two numbers, the number being added is called the augend, and the number being added is called the addend. For example, in 3 + 5 = 8, 3 is the augend, 5 is the addend, and 8 is the sum of 3 and 5. Addition is also called addition, compounding, or summation. Addition is used when finding the result of combining two quantities, or when finding the result of adding one quantity to another. When adding three or more numbers, first find the sum of the two numbers, and then add the numbers one by one. In addition, the commutative law a + b = b + a and the associative law (a + b) + c = a + (b + c) hold true.

二つの数に対して、それを加え合わせて第三の数を求めることをいう。得られた第三の数を二つの数の和という。初めの二つの数のうち、加えられる数を被加数、加える数を加数という。たとえば、3＋5＝8では、3が被加数、5が加数、8が3と5の和である。加法のことを加え算(くわえざん)、寄せ算(よせざん)、足し算(たしざん)ともいう。加法は、二つの量の合併の結果を求める場合、一つの量にもう一つの量を付け加えた結果を求める場合などに用いられる。三つ以上の数の加法は、まず二つの数の和を求め、それに次々と加えていけばよい。加法では、交換法則a＋b＝b＋aと結合法則(a＋b)＋c＝a＋(b＋c)が成り立つ。
