Ezekiel

Japanese: エゼキエル(英語表記)Ezekiel
Ezekiel
A prophet from the Babylonian captivity in the Old Testament. In Hebrew, it means "God strengthens." Son of the priest Buzi. He was sent to Babylonian captivity in 597 BC, and is said to have been called by God and began his prophetic work in the fifth year. His work is thought to have lasted for more than 20 years, during which time he prophesied the fate of his homeland, Israel, using various metaphors and symbols. At the same time, he spoke of an eternal covenant that would replace the old covenant as God's mercy, and revealed the need for inner conversion. Ezekiel's rich imagination is seen in many of his figurative expressions. For example, he fantasised about a valley full of dry bones that would eventually come to life and become the new Israel (Ezekiel 37). He also enthusiastically spread teachings about the deep meaning of revering God and the holiness of God's name. He was an extremely inspired prophet, and his ideas were consistently Messianic.
