A haiku poet and ukiyo-zoshi author from the early to mid-Edo period. His surname was Aoki, and he was commonly known as Jiemon. His other names included Hakubaien, Kasendo, and Sanseike. He was from Kyoto, and was a member of the Ryuho school. He became a sensha (a poetic scholar) in 1691 (Genroku 4), and in addition to selecting haiku books such as Haru no Mono (Haru no Mono), he also published etiquette books such as Heirin Ryozaishu (Hirin Ryouzaishu) and Heikai Shinshiki (Hirin Shinshiki), and a miscellaneous haiku book called Waka Ebisu. He also wrote several ukiyo-zoshi, including Kindai Otogi Hyakumonogatari (Modern Fairy Tales). "Even in the Bunsho era, the brush is blessed with the spring of the ages" (Heikai Shinshiki). 江戸前～中期の俳人，浮世草子作者。姓は青木，通称は治右衛門。別号は白梅園，歌仙堂，三省軒など。京都の人。立圃（りゆうほ）門。1691年(元禄4)点者となり，俳書《春の物》などを撰したほか，作法書《誹林良材集》《誹諧新式》，雑俳書《若ゑびす》を刊行，また《近代御伽百物語》など浮世草子数部を著した。〈文正も筆の冥加や世々の春〉(《誹諧新式》)。【石川八朗】
