Technology and Home Economics

Japanese: 技術・家庭科 - ぎじゅつかていか
Technology and Home Economics

It is the name of a junior high school subject. It was established in 1951 (Showa 26) as Vocational and Home Economics, and in the 1983 revision of the curriculum guidelines, it was renamed Technology and Home Economics against the backdrop of technological innovation in the industrial world, and the content was also reorganized. Since then, it has been reorganized many times, and the content of the 1998 revision is composed of "A. Technology and Manufacturing" and "B. Information and Computers" in the technical field, and "A. Independence in Life, Food, Clothing, and Shelter" and "B. Family and Home Life" in the home field. There are six items in each of the two contents of each field, of which items 1 to 4 are basic and fundamental content that all students, both boys and girls, must take. Items 5 and 6 are more advanced and can be selected according to students' interests and concerns. Although it is called Technology and Home Economics as a subject, the educational content is included in home economics education in the broad sense.
