Sotokaifu and Uchikaifu Coast - Sotokaifu and Uchikaifu Coast
The coastline from Hajikizaki, the northernmost point of Sado Island in Niigata Prefecture, to Shimoaikawa in Aikawa Town on the west side of the Osado Mountains is called Sotokaifu Coast, and the coastline from Hajikizaki to Kurohime in Ryotsu City on the east coast is called Uchikaifu Coast. Together, they are designated as Sado-Kaifu Coast, a place of scenic beauty. Sotokaifu's coastline is long and winding, with giant rocks protruding and small bays, and has one of Japan's largest coastal terraces, with a maximum height of 380m, consisting of 7 to 8 levels, and has been designated as an underwater park. Senkaku Bay is particularly notable for its beautiful coastline, with 20m-high sea cliffs stretching for about 3km, forming a coastline of small bays with many inlets and bays.
