Egota Flora

Japanese: 江古田植物群 - えごたしょくぶつぐん

A general term for fossil plants found in the sediments from the end of the Pleistocene (Pleistocene) epoch that filled the valley of the Myoshoji River that flows near Ekoda in Nakano Ward, Tokyo. It is divided into a lower group of plants made up of conifers (yew, Mallow fir, Picea jezoensis, Tsuga diversifolia, Larch, Korean pine, etc.) (the average annual temperature was 7 to 8 degrees Celsius lower than today, 20,000 to 30,000 years ago) and a higher group of plants made up of broadleaf trees (the average annual temperature is roughly the same as today). The lower group of plants mainly made up of conifers is thought to have grown during the Würm Glacial Age, the last period of the Quaternary Period, and indicates that the vegetation of this region was similar to that of central to northern Hokkaido today.

東京都中野区江古田付近を流れる妙正寺川の谷間を埋めた洪積世(更新世)末期の堆積物中に含まれる化石植物の総称。下位の針葉樹(イチイ，アオモリトドマツ，エゾマツ，コメツガ，カラマツ，チョウセンマツなど)を組成とする植物群(年平均気温が現在より7～8℃低い。2万～3万年前)と上位の広葉樹を組成とする植物群(年平均気温は現在とほぼ同じ)とに二分される。下位の針葉樹を主体とする植物群は，第四紀最後のウルム氷期に生育したものと考えられ，この地域の植生が，現在の北海道中～北部の状態と似ていたことを示している。
