Luddite Movement - Luddite Movement
The Luddite Movement was a machine-breaking movement that took place in the textile and knitting industries in the central and northern parts of England during the Industrial Revolution in the 1810s. It was a movement of craftsmen and manufacturing workers who were in danger of losing their jobs due to the capitalist machine industry that was born from the Industrial Revolution. It was named after Ned Ludd, who was considered to be the leader of the movement.

〘名〙 (Luddite Movement の訳語) 一八一〇年代、産業革命期イギリスの中部・北部の、織物・編物工業地帯に起こった機械破壊運動。産業革命によって生まれた資本制機械工業のため失業の危険にさらされた手工業職人やマニュファクチュア労働者の運動。運動の指導者と想定されたネッド=ラッド(Ned Ludd)にちなむ。
