Egeyama Kofun Group

Japanese: 恵解山古墳群 - えげやまこふんぐん
Egeyama Kofun Group
This is a group of ancient tombs built on the southern foot of the Bizan mountain range, which occupies the southwestern part of Tokushima City, on a branch mountain commonly known as Mt. Ekai. They are located in Shimo Fukuma, Yamamachi, Tokushima City. All of the 10 tombs whose existence has been confirmed are small circular tombs with little filling, and lack roofing stones and haniwa clay figures. The burial facilities include box-type stone coffins (tombs 1, 2, 3, 8, and 9) and cave-in stone chambers (tombs 5 and 7). It is safe to assume that the box-type stone coffin tombs were built in the 5th century, and the cave-in stone chamber tombs in the 6th century. Human bones, imitation mirrors, armor, swords, and iron arrowheads have been excavated from Tomb 1.
