Echeveria - Echeveria

A perennial succulent plant in the Crassulaceae family (APG classification: Crassulaceae). Most species grow in colonies without stems, but there are also stemmed species. The leaves are fleshy and not serrated, and many form small, dense rosettes with slight projections at the tips and powdery white. The flower stalks are lateral and mostly catkins. The flowers are bell-shaped and pentamerous. There are about 150 species distributed from southern America to northern Argentina, of which about 100 species grow wild in Mexico. They are cold-resistant and hardy, and there are many horticultural varieties. They are used in flower clocks and rock gardens. They are propagated by leaf cuttings.

ベンケイソウ科（APG分類：ベンケイソウ科）の1属で多年生多肉植物。大半は無茎で群生するが、有茎種もある。葉は多肉質で、鋸歯(きょし)はなく、多くは小形の密なロゼット葉を形成し、葉先にわずかな突起があり、白粉(はくふん)を帯びる。花茎は側生で、多くは尾状花序。花は鐘形で5数性。アメリカ南部からアルゼンチン北部に約150種分布し、うち約100種がメキシコに自生する。耐寒性があり、強健で、園芸品種も多い。花時計やロック・ガーデンに利用される。繁殖は葉挿しによる。
