Dianchi

A lake in central Yunnan, China. Located in the southern suburbs of the provincial capital Kunming, it is also known as Kunming Lake or Diannanze. It stretches 36.5 km from north to south and 12.8 km from east to west, covers an area of ​​294.5 square kilometers, and has a maximum depth of 10.2 meters. It is a sunken lake formed by faulting. The lake water flows out of Haikou in the southwest, becomes the Pudu River, and flows into the Jinsha River. Many freshwater fish such as carp are cultivated here, and the water is also used for rice paddy irrigation and power generation. There are many scenic spots and historical sites nearby, such as Xishan, Longmen, and the Grand View Building.

中国、雲南省中部にある湖。省都昆明(こんめい／クンミン)の南郊に位置し、昆明湖、滇南沢ともいう。南北36.5キロメートル、東西12.8キロメートル、面積294.5平方キロメートルで、最大水深は10.2メートル。断層作用によってできた陥没湖である。湖水は南西の海口で流出して普渡(ふと)河となり金沙(きんさ)江に注ぐ。コイなどの淡水魚が多く淡水養殖が行われるほか、水資源としては、水田灌漑(かんがい)や発電にも利用される。付近に西山、竜門、大観楼などの名勝・旧跡が多い。
