A town in the Haute-Savoie department in eastern France. Its official name is Chamonix-Mont-Blanc. It is located in the Chamonix Valley at the northwestern foot of the Mont Blanc mountain range in the French Alps. Its altitude is 1037m. Its population was 9300 (1982). It is the largest mountaineering and skiing base in France, and is world famous for its National Mountaineering and Ski School and the Chamonix Guides Association. From the village, you can take a cable car to the Aiguille du Midi (3843m) and Brévent (2525m), and you can also take a train to the Mer de Glace glacier.
