[1] [Noun] A gastropod shell of the family Acanthidae. It lives on sandy and muddy bottoms at depths of 20 to 100 meters south of the Boso Peninsula. It has a low spiral spire and is egg-shaped. The shell is about 8 centimeters high. The surface is yellowish-white with a row of brown square spots. The shell opening is large with a row of small folds on the inside. It was named after Ura Shrine, which enshrines Mizunoe Urashima no Ko (=Urashima Taro).

[1] 〘名〙トウカムリガイ科の巻き貝。房総半島以南の水深二〇～一〇〇メートルの砂泥底にすむ。螺塔(らとう)が低く、卵形。殻高約八センチメートル。表面は黄白色で、褐色の方形斑が並ぶ。殻口は大きく、内側に小さなひだが並ぶ。和名ウラシマガイ。[2][一] ＝うらしま（浦島）の子[二] 浦島伝説に取材した作品。① 謡曲。脇能物。廃曲。作者不詳。別名「水江(みずのえ)」。臣下が丹後国水江に下向し、浦島明神から薬を授けられる。② 謡曲。脇能物。廃曲。宝生作。別名「龍神浦島」。亀山院の臣下が水江に下向すると、蓬莱の仙女、浦島明神、海龍王、天女などが現われる。③ 狂言。大蔵流番外曲。祖父と孫が釣った亀を助けてやると、亀の精が現われ、磯辺に箱を置いて消える。二人が箱をあけると、白い煙が立ち、祖父は若い男となる。④ 歌舞伎所作事。長唄。四世杵屋三郎助作曲。文政一一年（一八二八）江戸中村座で初演。七変化舞踊「拙筆力七以呂波(にじりがきななついろは)」の一つ。[三] 京都府北部、奥丹後半島東端の伊根町付近の古称。水江浦島子(みずのえのうらしまのこ)（=浦島太郎）をまつる宇良神社があるために呼ばれた。
