A general term for birds of the Jacanidae family, or a single species. This family (English name: jacana) is found in sub-Saharan Africa, southern Asia, Australia, Central and South America, and consists of 6 genera and 7 species. Total length is about 17-55 cm. It has a shape similar to that of rails, a front plate, and very long toes. There are claw-like protrusions on the corners of the wings. It prefers shallow lakes and marshes with thick aquatic plants, and uses its long toes to walk easily on the leaves of water lilies and other plants, foraging for animal matter such as aquatic insects and shellfish.
