Mayumi Aoki

1953－ A female swimmer from the late Showa to Heisei eras.
Born May 1, 1953. Joined the Yamada Swimming Club in Osaka, where she set a succession of new Japanese records, and won the gold medal in the 100m butterfly at the Munich Olympics in 1972 with a new world record of 1 minute 3.3 seconds. She was the first gold medalist in a women's individual event in 36 years, since Hideko Maehata. She graduated from Tenri University and became a high school teacher. She was born in Kumamoto Prefecture. Her real name is Mayumi Nishiguchi.

昭和28年5月1日生まれ。大阪の山田スイミングクラブにはいり,日本新記録を連発し,昭和47年ミュンヘン五輪100mバタフライで1分3秒3の世界新記録で金メダル。女子の個人競技では,前畑秀子以来36年ぶりの金メダリストとなった。天理大を卒業し,高校教師となる。熊本県出身。本名は西口まゆみ。
