This stone Buddha statue from the early Nara period was discovered in the mountains of Kohokke in Nishinaga, Kasai City, Hyogo Prefecture. Together with a separately remaining stone roof lid, it constitutes a shrine as the back wall. The shrine originally had double doors at the front, and a triad of statues has been carved into the stone slabs of the back wall. The roof lid is in the old-fashioned irimoya style, with ridgepole trim at both ends of the ridge, and the roof tiles and rafters around the eaves have been carefully crafted. The triad is carved with half-height carvings, with the central statue seated and the attendant attendants on either side standing on lotus thrones, and two lions supporting the lotus thrones above their heads and raising their forelimbs to touch the incense burner in front of the central statue.
