…The term Prussia in its broadest sense refers to the Kingdom of Prussia, which formed the core of the German Empire since 1871. However, as an administrative region, it is used to refer to the northeastern part of the kingdom, that is, the area east of the states of Pomerania and Brandenburg, across the Weichsel (Vistula) to the Memel (Neman) along the Baltic Sea. Prussia in the latter sense is further divided into East Prussia (Ostpreussen) and West Prussia, with the Weichsel River as the dividing line.
