Kimura Matajiro - Kimura Matajiro

Japanese: 木村又次郎 - きむらまたじろう

...the name of a town in Nishi-ku, Osaka City. At the beginning of the Edo period, Fushimi ronin Kimura Matajiro relocated Keisei-cho in Shimanouchi and developed Hyotan-cho. With the completion of the Itachibori River in 1626 (Kan'ei 3), the area gradually developed and was home to a mix of wholesalers, but it was officially recognized as the only prostitute town in the three Osaka districts, and from around 1635, the surrounding red-light districts were gradually relocated there.
