In 1640 (Kan'ei 17), a family dispute occurred within the household of Ikeda Teruzumi, a fudai feudal lord and feudal lord of the Yamazaki domain in Harima province (Hyogo prefecture) with a stipend of over 68,000 koku. In 1615 (Genwa 1), the Ikeda clan of the Harima Himeji domain split into three branch domains: Yamazaki (Ikeda Teruzumi, 38,000 koku), Ako (Ikeda Masatsuna, 35,000 koku), and Hirafuku (Ikeda Teruoki, 25,000 koku). Of these, the Masatsuna family died out without an heir in 1627 (Kan'ei 4), and the Teruoki family went insane in 1645 (Shoho 2) and was stripped of their title. In 1631 (Kan'ei 8), Terusumi was granted an additional 30,000 koku in Masatsuna's former territory of Sayo County in Harima, giving him a total of 68,000 koku. However, Terusumi favored a newcomer, Ogawa Shirouemon, and caused a dispute with his elder retainer, Igi Iori. Igi and over 100 others fled the domain, and the shogunate intervened to punish both factions. Terusumi was demoted and entrusted to his clan's Inaba Tottori domain, where he received 10,000 koku as compensation for his patience.
