〘名〙近世、町奉行所の同心に私的に抱えられて、犯罪人の探索、逮捕の役に当たったもの。目明かし。おかひき。※禁令考‐前集・第三・巻二八・宝暦九年（1759）一一月二七日「岡引と申候は、〈略〉其者之罪を免し、外科人を召捕候」[補注]「おか」は傍(そば)の意で、そばに居て手引きする者の意とも、また、「おか」は仮(かり)の意で、同心の犯人逮捕を「本引き」というのに対して、同心に代わって仮に逮捕する者の意ともいう。
