1883‐1925 A French comic actor from the silent film era. In Japan, he is known as Max Landé. After graduating from drama school, he performed on the stage in Paris, but in 1905 he entered the film industry. In 1910, he created the main character "Max." Until then, comedic protagonists were exaggerated and obviously comical, like circus clowns, whose costumes alone drew laughs. However, Landé's unique style of playing the "clown" was that he dressed like a completely ordinary man, wearing a black formal suit, a top hat, patent leather shoes, white gloves, and carrying a cane, in the style of a perfect gentleman.
