As mentioned above, when simply saying alum, it refers to aluminum potassium alum, where M ^I = K and M ^III = Al, but when M ^III = Al, the aluminum is often omitted and it is called potassium alum (or potassium alum). When ^{M I} = _NH4 , it is called ammonium alum (formerly called ammonia alum). On the other hand, when M ^I = K and the Al in M ^​​III is replaced with Cr, Fe, etc., it is called chrome alum or iron alum.
