This is an ancient building in which two halls are connected in front and behind to form a single space. In ancient architecture, due to restrictions on materials and structure, the beams could not be made extremely large, so this was a way to create a large space with relatively short beams, and a large gutter was placed at the contact line of the eaves of both buildings to prevent rain from leaking in (Horyu-ji Temple's Western Temple Dining Hall, Hosoden, etc.) (Figure 1). In addition, there are also buildings where the sacred space for Buddha and the space for people to worship are built as separate structures and connected to form a single Buddhist hall with a single function (Todai-ji Temple's Hokke-do Hall) (Figure 2), and buildings that are used separately for the night palace of the gods and the day palace (Usa Hachiman Shrine Main Hall), and extensions of the latter can also be seen in the Heijo Palace Imperial Palace and local government offices.
