A bay located on the coast (Sea of Japan side) of North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea (Republic of Korea). The faulted coast makes it easy for ships to enter and leave. The Hyeongsan River flows into the bay, and the Pohang Plain spreads out at its mouth. The Hyeongsan River Rift Valley is formed from the main bay through Gyeongju to Ulsan Bay, and railroads and roads run along it.
