Umm Dabaghiyah

Japanese: ウンム・ダバギヤ(英語表記)Umm Dabaghiyah
Umm Dabaghiyah
A Neolithic site with the earliest pottery in northern Mesopotamia. It is located 26 km west of the Parthian city of Hatra, about 95 km southwest of Mosul in northern Iraq. It was dated to around 6000 BC by carbon-14 dating. From the late 1940s to the 1960s, the Hassuna site was famous as the oldest agricultural village site in this region, but many materials from a period parallel to the lowest Ia period, for which only fragmentary materials were available, were excavated here. The site is 100m x 85m, with a cultural layer about 4m thick, and was excavated four times in total between 1971 and 1974 by D. Kirkbride.
