...The Japanese name comes from the fact that it makes brooms. In Japan, a type with thicker leaves than the standard type grows wild, and is sometimes distinguished as Isoboki f. littorea (Makino) Kitam. It grows in salty coastal marshes, and is particularly common in salt fields along the Seto Inland Sea.
