Howard Phlips Lovecraft

An American writer of horror stories. Born in Providence. He was a standout among horror stories, but because he mostly published in pulp magazines, he was not necessarily blessed with literary success. After his death, he gained immense popularity when several anthologies of his posthumous works were published. His Cthulhu myth, a world ruled by a god in another dimension, has had a major influence on modern science fiction space adventures.

アメリカの怪奇恐怖小説作家。プロビデンス生まれ。怪奇小説でも、ひときわぬきんでた存在だったが、発表誌は多くがパルプ・マガジンだったために、かならずしも文運には恵まれなかった。死後、いくつかのアンソロジーの遺作選集が出るに及んで、絶大な人気を獲得した。彼のつくりあげた異次元にある神の支配する世界の「クートル神話」cthulhu mythは、現在のSF宇宙冒険物に大きな影響を与えている。
