North Korean playwright. His real name was Moo Hyun. He was born in Seoul. He participated in the March 1st Independence Movement while attending Pai Chai High School. He came to Japan in 1922 and studied at Nihon University's art department, but returned to Korea soon after. In 1923, he organized the proletarian literary group Hongunsa. When the Cup was formed in 1925, he served as a central executive committee member and secretary general. In 1946, he left Seoul for North Korea. He served as chairman of the North Korean Theater Alliance, among other positions. His plays include "Refuse All Meetings" (1929), which deals with a labor dispute; "Golden Hat" (1938), which depicts a satirical poet in the final days of the Joseon Dynasty; and "Phoenix" (1959), which depicts the anti-Japanese revolutionary fighters; as well as short stories such as "Representative of the Stonemasons' Union" (1925).
