Servant City - Hokouninichi

Japanese:
Servant City - Hokouninichi
Also called a "job market," this market was a market for brokering employment for seasonal servants. Its origins date back to the appearance of seasonal servants and the popularity of the practice of migrant workers, and are not particularly old. From the early to mid-modern period onwards, many employment agencies that arranged for servants were established in regional cities where the industry was not as established as in large cities. According to documents, the women's market and the job market in Kanazawa, Kaga, which continued until around the Genroku period (1688-1704), are well-known, but they were also held until the early Showa period in Yokote, Akita Prefecture, Nagai, Yamagata Prefecture, Takibe, Toyoura County, Yamaguchi Prefecture, and Tajima, Munakata County, Fukuoka Prefecture.
