Wreath Holder
In England, a person who rents land for a fixed period of time under a contract, subject to a fixed payment in kind or money. Fixed-term tenancy farming. From the end of the 14th century onwards, landlords began to lease land that had become impossible to cultivate or had been abandoned. The terms of the contract varied from place to place and time, but around the 17th century, 21-year leases were common, and thereafter they tended to become shorter.

英国において契約により一定期間,一定の現物ないしは貨幣の支払いを条件にして土地を借りる者。定期借地農。14世紀末以降,耕作が不可能になったり,放棄された土地を領主があらためて貸し出すかたちで生まれた。契約内容は時と所によってさまざまであったが,17世紀ごろには21年間の借地契約が一般的であり,以後は短期化する傾向にあった。
