1606‐56 French painter. Born in Paris. His father, Etienne, was also a painter. He studied in the studio of Georges Lallemand (Lallemant) and participated in the decoration of the Château de Fontainebleau. His early works show Mannerist techniques, but he gradually began to show Baroque techniques such as those of S. Boué. In the 1640s, he worked on decorative paintings for Paris mansions (hotels), tapestry drawings, and religious paintings for newly built churches. In 1648, he became one of the 12 founders of the Academie d'Art. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
