Nicolae Iorga

Japanese: ヨルガ - よるが(英語表記)Nicolae Iorga
Nicolae Iorga

Romanian historian, man of letters, and politician. Known as a child prodigy, he completed his studies at the University of Iasi in one year and three months, graduating at the age of 19. He studied abroad in Paris and Leipzig, where he obtained a doctorate in history. After returning to Japan, he was appointed professor of history at the University of Bucharest at the age of 23. He gained fame as a world authority on Byzantine history, but was also active in the fields of criticism and literary history research, and the literary magazine he edited, The Sower, became a base for the peasant literary school, which defended the development of indigenous rural culture against Western urban civilization. His work, The People of Yesterday (1934-39), is a masterpiece of memoir literature. He was also active as a conservative politician, but was assassinated by a fascist organization due to his anti-fascist attitude.
